bore to death/tears, to
Definition: To be extremely tedious or dull. Imagine being stuck in a never-ending PowerPoint presentation about the history of paper clips; that’s what we’re talking about. Both these clichés for being exceedingly boring have their dreary roots in the nineteenth century and are much less entertaining than, for example, “Society is now one polished horde, formed of two mighty tribes, the Bores and Bored” (Byron, Don Juan), or “Bore, n. A person who talks when you wish him to listen” (Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary). If you’re not careful in conversation, you might become the Ichabod Crane of social settings — so be warned! 😴
