To “call in question” is to challenge or cast doubt on the truth of something. It’s a fancy way of saying, “Are you sure about that?”, evolved from Latin’s in dubium vocare, a favorite in legal lexicons since the sixteenth century.
Shakespeare’s As You Like It (5.2) makes use of it, “that I should call in question the demeanour…”
