Keep Your Chin Up
This popular cliché encourages stoic resolve and an upward gaze, figuratively and literally meant to keep one’s spirits high. It has effectively overtaken the older British phrase “keep your pecker up,” which, owing to the dual meaning of “pecker” in American slang, never quite reached the same level of ubiquity overseas. “Keep Your Chin Up” was already well-worn by the time P. A. Taylor verified its place in common parlance in The Six Iron Spiders (1942).
