Star Chamber
Star Chamber — An unfair, secret judicial proceeding. This term originates from a criminal court established in England in the 1400s, where the King’s Council presided as judges in certain cases. They convened in the Star Chamber of the royal palace at Westminster, named for the gilded stars on its ceiling, and gained notoriety for their severe rulings and punishment. The court was abolished in 1621, but its designation persisted in describing similar clandestine and unjust trials. Fast forward to the late 1990s, when Kenneth Starr served as independent counsel in the investigation involving First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, and satirical commentators made playful references to “Mr. Starr’s chamber.”
Synonyms: Kangaroo court, unfair trial, mock trial, clandestine proceeding, secret court
Antonyms: Fair trial, open court, due process

Farewell Thought: “Remember, justice without transparency is like astrology without stars—pointless and dark. Seek fairness and shine the light of accountability on every corner of the judiciary.”
